You might recognise model and beauty guru Molly Sims from her work on the Victoria’s Secret runway, Project Runway or her many brand ambassador and fashion campaigns for the likes of Jimmy Choo and CoverGirl. Now, at 48 and with three children, Sims has found a new passion for sharing beauty and life hacks on her website and Instagram page.
Recently, she took to her various platforms to share why she believes that Infrared Saunas are the most underrated and highly beneficial wellness trend right now, giving all new meaning to her popular ‘Sweat with Sims’ workout Bootcamp.
The benefits of regular infrared sauna sweat sessions simply cannot be replicated by breaking a sweat out during your daily walk or exercising outside on a hot day. With an abundance of benefits for your mind, body and soul, Sims is not alone in loving the cocoon-like warmth and glow of a sauna. Here are her favourite reasons to sweat it out in a sauna on a regular basis.
Increase blood flow and improve blood pressure
Many people struggle with high blood pressure. In fact, high blood pressure or ‘hypertension’ affects about 1 in 3 Australians aged 18 and over (34%) and is a major risk factor for chronic conditions including stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
Thankfully, sauna sessions are a safe and effective way to support and improve our arteries and heart health, helping to lower blood pressure.
On her health and wellness site, Sims shares insightful information from Dr. Joel Kahn, a holistic cardiologist who recommends the use of at-home Sunlighten Infrared Saunas, saying: “tests done on arteries show better blood flow, hearts beat stronger, and endurance is increased.”
“FOR THE MILLIONS STRUGGLING WITH THEIR BLOOD PRESSURE,
SESSIONS IN THE SAUNA CAN BE VERY HELPFUL.”
Say goodbye to toxins and hello to clearer skin
Who doesn’t want to achieve that youthful dewy-look and crystal clear skin? And, as a model and actress, Sims can’t afford not to take care of her skin. In fact, one of the things she finds most exciting about regular sauna use is that they help take care of your skin as we grow older, removing toxins that accumulate with age. Holistic cardiologist Dr Khan adds that: “the sweat induced by infrared is more efficient at removing toxins than sweat from exercise alone.”
This is what allows our pores to become less clogged, resulting in detoxed and smoother skin. Taking care of your skin or ‘getting your glow on’ is an important form of self-care that helps us look and feel like we’re glowing from the inside out.
“YOUR LYMPHATIC SYSTEM IS YOUR BODY’S FILTRATION NETWORK.
HARMFUL ORGANISMS ARE TRAPPED DESTROYED AS THEY PASS
THROUGH THEY LYMPH NODES.GIVE YOUR LYMPH SYSTEM
A HAND BY SWEATING OUT THE TOXINS.”
Repair your tired muscles
While feeling the burn after an intense Pilates or gym session can be very satisfying, lingering muscle pain and fatigue certainly isn’t! And, according to Sims, one of the best ways to speed up and aid muscle recovery after a workout is by pairing it with a sauna.
“SAUNAS PRODUCE AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF BENEFITS THAT CAN’T BE
REPLICATED BY SIMPLY LAYING, WALKING OR EXERCISING OUTSIDE.”
Thanks to the infrared light technology penetrating deep into the body, the heat is able to accelerate muscle recovery through increased blood flow. What a perfect way to combat sore muscles and prevent injuries!
