Described as one of the most dedicated and hardest working athletes among his fellow teammates, Friend of Sunlighten and Port Adelaide midfielder Travis Boak recently shared with us how he uses Infrared therapy and implements wellness pillars into his life to help be the best version of himself on and off the footy field.
With his Sunlighten infrared sauna playing an important role in his recovery, immunity and overall wellbeing, read our chat with Travis to learn more about why prioritising recovery and mental health is just as important as performing at your best.
Sunlighten: Why did you decide to get a Sunlighten infrared sauna?
Travis: I was looking to add more recovery methods to my post game and general health and had heard about the benefits of infrared saunas and just loved how they made me feel. I decided to get one for my home and am so glad I did because I didn't realise how good the infrared sauna actually was to my health, recovery and for my sleep as well.
Sunlighten: Have you noticed any improvements in your recovery/energy/general wellbeing after using your Sunlighten infrared sauna?
Travis: I have seen a huge improvement in all aspects of my life and footy career.
I use my Sunlighten Infrared sauna around 3-4 times a week all year round. This has helped my sleep, especially when I use it post dinner around 7 before bed.
I used to get sick a bit during the year through the stress of football and the toll it took on my body and health. Adding the sauna sessions in I hardly getting sick now and feel like I have so much more energy on a day to day basis.
I also love to meditate and stretch in my Sunlighten Infrared sauna and this has helped my flexibility, relaxation and mindfulness.
Sunlighten: What are three things you do each week to ensure you prioritise your health and feel your best?
Travis: The three key pillars for me to keep me at my best possible self mentally and physically are:
Sleep: Sleep is so important. If I don't get enough sleep, or have a restless sleep, I can never feel my best and increase the risk of getting sick or feeling emotionally unwell.
Nutrition: It’s so important to make sure I eat well and get enough calories and energy into my body to help me through my day, either on my day off or training day.
Mindfulness: Being present, how I talk to myself, being myself, being grateful. All of this is so important to living the life I want to live and enjoying life.
Sunlighten: What are your plans for the off season?
Travis: Off season for me is broken down into a few different parts and really doing the things I love to do with no schedule or restrictions. Our footy schedule is always so structured and we are told where to be and when all season, so it's nice to go into the off season and just do what I want when I feel like it.
I love to travel, explore, train, and relax during my off season whilst still focusing on being the best version of myself.
