Steve O’Donnell walked through the front door of our South Melbourne wellness centre wearing the black overalls of his chimney sweep day-job, just weeks after he and partner Chantelle Ford took home $736,000 in prize money when they won the 2014 Fans vs Favourites round of Channel 9’s The Block.
At the beginning of a Melbourne winter, Steve was now preparing to play in the annual EJ Witten legends AFL game. Playing social basketball had kept him in reasonable fitness, but he was recovering from a broken rib that had interrupted his regular workout routine.
Steve wanted to try our saunas to help him recover in time for the game. After showing Steve our sauna rooms on level 2, he commenced a program of between two and four sessions per week in our mPulse Conquer, 3-person sauna.
After the first week, Steve had noticed a significant reduction in the pain in his rib, as well as a noticeable improvement in the arthritic pain he usually experienced in his hands during winter.
After two weeks, however, he started to experience an entirely different outcome;
“Initially, it was about relieving the pain in my ribs and hands, and recently, Chantelle has noticed I’ve lost some weight.
But after a few weeks, I felt a wider change. After each session I felt great. I started eating better, I was sleeping better – these saunas were having an impact long after I left.”
Following his experience on The Block, Steve is busier than ever. Currently planning his next project, Steve will be including a Sunlighten sauna in his plans. Unfortunately, this means we won’t see him as much, but he’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of a daily sauna session in his own home.
Watch Steve speak about Sunlighten saunas his family’s experience with prostate cancer on 3AW with Grubby and DD in the lead up to the EJ Witten game.
